Loneliness

We’re all alone, even when we’re with them.” Samantha Jones, Sex and the City.

A few weeks ago, one loved one of mine sent me a link of a song, "Hello in there". Below is one stanza of the song by John Prine:

You know that old trees just grow stronger

And old rivers grow wilder every day

Old people just grow lonesome

Waiting for someone to say

"Hello in there, hello"

Each of us may have a spouse, best friend, lover, kids, you name it. But don't we sometimes have to be alone, in certain circumstances, without that spouse or best friend or lover? Yes I know that being alone will not always mean lonely.

Nevertheless, we still cannot avoid the fact that sometimes we are alone, and in some point, this can lead to loneliness.

And the older we are, the smaller circle of friendship we have.

Indeed, we are the best friend to ourselves. We may be alone, but we can comfort ourselves and even enjoy the loneliness.
